In Social Studies, students received their folder and test scores yesterday and today. They wrote their scores in their assignment books for you to see and it will either be initialed by me or Mrs. Hedrick (my substitute teacher yesterday). Because of the early release day, I did not get to initial the assignment books of 2-blue class. They did see the test and record the score. If they didn’t have their assignment book, they wrote the information on a piece of paper. All scores have been entered in the STI system. Please check your student’s grades online to see how he or she is progressing.
We will begin our study of Ancient Greece from Chapter 4 in our textbook on Monday. The students will have homework each time they have social studies class. The homework should only take them about 10 minutes to complete. If they say they have finished the homework, please ask to see it as proof.
In Communication Arts, the students will be reading chapters 5, 6, and 7 from Number The Stars this coming week. A writing activity as well as a quiz will be given to go along with the reading. Beginning the middle of the week, the students will be Online Performance Testing for Language Arts, Reading, and Math. It is very important that the students get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast and be here everyday so they can do their very best on this important mid-year test. There will be no spelling assignments or spelling test this week.
In Science, the students are developing an understanding of the difference between thermal and chemical changes in substances. They should understand why salt products are placed on snow and ice covered roadways after completing our lab this week. We will continue investigating matter over the next couple of weeks.
In Mathematics, we took the Chapter 6 test this week, so be sure to ask your student about their score. They did an excellent job! Class averages were 90% before the extra credit. Students turned in their vocabulary from pg. 314 before the test, and received 100 points for it also. If your child didn’t finish their vocabulary, please encourage them to finish and turn it in for partial credit.
We will begin Performance Testing next week in the computer lab, and results will go home in the near future. Have a great weekend!
In Reading Exploratory, please make sure that your student is reading 100 minutes per week, writing three complete summaries, and having you sign the Reading Log (attached). Please have students proofread and edit their summaries if it is not their best work. There will be a reading log due every Friday.
