Paws Team Update

In Social Studies, we are continuing our study of Ancient Rome. The test/folder over Chapter 8 will be taken/due on Wednesday (4-21-10) for blue classes and on Thursday (4-22-10) for gold classes. The students will again have homework each time they have class. It should only take them about 10 minutes to complete the work. There are several students coming to class without the textbook. If your student comes to class without the textbook I am going to have them call a parent/guardian to serve as a reminder to bring the textbook to class. Please replenish supplies as we get ready to complete the fourth quarter—paper and pencils.

In Communication Arts, the students are working on writing poetry and have a poem on sports due this week. They are also reading a science fiction story from the Literature book called, "All Summer In A Day" and have some activities to finish that go with the story. Several students have told Mrs. McFarland that they have lost their $75 Literature book. Please check with your child and make sure they have their book. These are very expensive textbooks and we do not want to have to students pay $75 for a lost book.

The book fair is this week (Tuesday-Friday). Students will get a chance to visit the book fair during Communication Arts class. The pricing will be buy one and get one half-price.

In Mathematics, we will be going back to chapter 5 and studying multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers. Students will need to get back in the routine of having homework after each class. They did an excellent job on the MAP and I was very proud of them!

In Science, we are beginning our study of the planets and the solar system. Students are working in class on assignments and notes.

In Reading Exploratory, please make sure that your student is reading 100 minutes per week, writing three complete summaries, and having you sign the Reading Log (attached). Please have students proofread and edit their summaries if it is not their best work. There will be a reading log due every Friday.
